| Reflecting as Moving Day Approaches You know, when you start packing up to move it isn't until you're taking pictures down that you realize how much you've missed. It's sad really.
The amount of dust I missed on the tops of the picture frames is unbelievable! Next time I'll have to be more thorough when I clean.
But seriously, packing up for a move is the time to reflect. It can be a time of great revelation, great insight. Like this one: if you really want to clean things up, move. Because once the furniture is in place you know damn well that you're not going to move that crap to vacuum under it!
It's "out of sight, out of mind" until you're on your hands and knees looking under the refrigerator for a missing toy mouse the cat used to play with. When you find it you notice that all of his pals have been under there taking a dust nap with him too! The little guys are just cocooned in dust and lint. I envision fang-toothed dust monsters lurking in the dark recesses, out of sight, waiting for me to leave so they can get back to work on their fiber-filled victims.
And THAT was just under the sofa. Do you move the fridge to clean under it? Hell no! You get a long ruler or a long-handled wooden spoon and fish the toy out from under the appliance, then shake it off and toss it back to the cat, who is elated because he hasn't seen that one in a looong time!
In approximately 30 seconds the cat has deftly soccer-kicked the toy under another piece of furniture, and sits there waiting as if it's going to come running back out. Note to self: see if they sell furniture skirt dams at Walmart. There has to be something to prevent this!
I'm starting to pack things up for a move, and I'm anticipating the rediscovery of a lot of long lost possessions. And a lot of dust bunnies.
... That reminds me. I need to pick up some new vacuum bags.
